On 13th November 2020, an Award Ceremony on ‘Good Practices of Agricultural Mechanization Solutions to Poverty Reduction’ was organized in Qingdao City, China on the sideline of the 2020 China International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition. The Case Study on ‘Integrated Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization Project for Poverty Alleviation’ contributed by the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) was selected as one of the ‘Good Practices of Agricultural Mechanization Solutions to Poverty Reduction’ among 77 cases shared by agricultural machinery practitioners from government agencies, research institutes and private sector entities in China. The event was co-organized by the China Agricultural Machinery Distribution Association, China National Radio Network, and China Agricultural Mechanization Herald.

CSAM’s Case Study focuses on a project implemented in Chengbu county of Hunan province of China in 2018 which strengthened the capacities of local stakeholders to use agricultural machinery for sustainable agricultural and rural development through training, study tour, and facilitation of donation of agricultural machinery by the private sector to a local farmers’ cooperative. This was a joint initiative of CSAM and other United Nations entities in China which contributed towards the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Ministry of Commerce of China  and the United Nations in China in 2018.
